Curlformers® Review and Tutorial
Today, I had the opportunity to try out a hair product that I’ve heard a lot about. Curlformers are a unique hair tool that works on wet/damp hair to provide beautiful spiral curls with no heat. They are an easy way to get your hair curly, naturally and fast. Each curler is made of a woven fibrous plastic that works by allowing the hair inside to air dry. Today, I put these to the test with my daughter, Gabrielle’s, thick, hard to curl hair. If you’d like to know how it works and my final thoughts on the product, keep reading…
The bag came with 40 extra-long & wide curling spirals and 2 hooks. These work on hair that is up to 22 inches long. There are other sizes available on their website. Click here to go directly to the site. Amazon has them also with FREE SHIPPING!
I had my daughter wash and condition her hair for easy combing. Having the hair tangle free is very important. Below is a photo of all the products I used on her hair today. You don’t have to use the conditioning spray. I just used it to make her hair super soft after the curlers came out.
For best results, it is adviced to use a styling mouse on the wet hair. This helps with volume, as well as holding the curl longer.
Section the hair. Start working from the bottom of the hair to the top. Use a clip to secure the hair on the head.
Insert the hook into the curler. You want the hook end up. Slide the curler down the hook.
Using small sections of hair at a time, hook the hair. It may help to twist the hair a little. Proceed to slide the hook out of the curler. The hair will be attached to the hook and run through the curler.
Proceed with the rest of the bottom portion of the hair. Remember, it takes a little practice. Don’t try to pull through to much hair at a time.
Separate the next section of hair and continue the same as before. If a curler becomes misshapen, adjust it back into shape.
When finished, you should look something like this! My daughter thought this was the coolest! I wouldn’t let her outside….
After about 6 hours, you should be ready to take them out. Gently grasp the end of the curler and the section of hair at the top of the scalp. Softly pull. If this seems difficult, then the hair is not dry enough. Leave them in for a while longer OR if you are in a rush, use a hair drier.
After they are out, style as desired!
This is my other daughter Lauren playing with them on her fingers. LOL! They chased each other around the house!
Ok, now onto my review of Curlformers;
I think Curlformers are a great idea. They are fairly simple to use and took me roughly 45 minutes to complete. This is pretty good timing for a newbie. I think next time I will be a lot faster.
While using, I found that the curlers would change their shape when the hair was inside. This was only when I was threading the hair through and/or when I threaded too much through. It was easy to adjust back, but I found it a bit aggravating sometimes. I’ll admit that I did curse (softly) to myself…
Also, these are definitely not for people who are in a rush to get ready. If you could sleep in them, they would be perfect. However; I would suspect that most women wouldn’t tolerate them at night. Unless it’s Halloween. Although, if you would use them in the morning, by lunchtime you would have lovely curled hair. These are perfect for getting ready for a date or going out to a club!
My daughter absolutely loved them! She loved the way her hair looked and felt. She felt like a beauty queen. The curls held all day and I would bet that they will look exactly the same tomorrow. I’ll update so stay tuned. Also, she loved the fact that no heat was involved. She doesn’t like heat curlers because they burn her head. Curlformers would be excellent for school hair styles. Picture day, dances, cheerleaders, pageants, etc. or just an everyday school hair style. They work great on all hair types and amazing on African American hair.
Overall; I think that they are a great product! They are a reusable, no heat/no damage way to curl hair that many people would use over and over again. They make styling so much easier. The styling options are endless and the curls really stay for a long, long time vs. heated curlers & irons. I think they’re totally worth trying out.

**Update: The morning after she still had bouncy beautiful curls. They are looser and more natural than yesterday. See pic below.
