I started out using Salicylic acid peels through another company at 20%. It worked unbelievably great. I have had acne prone skin since high school and am now in my 30′s and still get the same breakouts- until I started using salicylic acid peels.
I ordered this one when my other bottle from another company became low. This brand had a higher percentage (30%) at a lower price with free shipping so I thought I would give it a try.
My first red flag was the strong alcohol smell when I opened the bottle. It also stung more than the 20%. Since this bottle was a 30%, I figured that was the reason. Boy was I wrong! I have begun getting worse breakouts than before and I’ve discovered the culprit. It contains several other ingredients besides the acid that are horrible for your skin! None of these ingredients were listed in the description when I purchased.
*It contains Propylene glycol. It’s an ingredient in the oil dispersant Corexit, used in great quantities during the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. May affect genetic material (mutagenic). Propylene glycol can cause adverse reproductive effects and birth defects (teratogenic) based on animal test data. Also, repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage and CNS or central nervous system damage.
*SD Alcohol (SD stands for “Specially Denatured”) is regular alcohol with the most minute amount of nasty tasting denatonium benzoate. Denatonium Benzoate is added to many kinds of harmful liquids including solvents (such as nail polish remover), paints, and varnishes.
*Hexylene Glycol, which is a known human immune system toxicant and is also used as a selective solvent in petroleum refining. In other words, NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO USE OF MY FACE!
I’m not saying that these ingredients are rare. They are probably in several items we all use daily. However, it’s not an ingredient I want to use on my face when I’m trying to improve my skin. It’s definitely not very trustworthy for the company to not list them in the description. Shady! I’m returning this one and sticking with my tried and true acids that use just distilled water as their additive.
Wow – thanks for the information. I bought this same product without realizing what was in it. I’ve never used a peel before, so I didn’t know what to expect. Now, I’ll be sure to try a better brand of peel.
trust me over the counter ttrtamenes for acne dont work as there not strong enuff and often irrate the skin and make it worse! clearasil, visibly clear, oxy you name it i tried it and wasted a lot of money. Then i finally went to the doctors and he prescribed me sum zineryt and within a few weeks my skin completey cleared up so dont waste ur time and money just get to the doctors.
