Dry/Combo Skin Foundation: Most people have normal to dry skin types, especially in the winter. Dry/combo skin needs a foundation that offers hydration and luminosity, so matte foundations are a BIG no-no. When people with dry/combo skin wear matte foundations, it accentuates lines, wrinkles, pores, and texture. Matte foundations are designed and formulated with oil absorbing properties. Therefore, they suck the life out of your skin. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is a radiant foundation that gives a lifelike vitality to the skin. It comes in 24 shades and is $64. It’s expensive, I know, but this foundation photographs like a dream and my #1 pick for dry to dry/combo skin. Sephora offers this in a mini size for $42. A great drugstore option is Loreal Pro Glow Foundation. In fact, it made my 2017 Best List!
Oily/Acne Prone Skin Foundation: Oily and acne prone skin needs both good coverage and satin-matte – matte foundation. One of the best on the market right now is Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation. It doesn’t emphasize pores or texture and covers imperfects perfectly without looking cakey or heavy. It comes in 22 shades and retails for $58.
Normal Skin Foundation: Those who are lucky enough to have completely normal skin can wear just about any foundation they want. For someone who wants good coverage, non-drying formula, and not too dewy (a middle of the road foundation) – Loreal True Match is ideal. I have raved about this foundation for years and years. Your pictures will look amazing.
Sensitive Skin Foundation: For individuals with sensitive skin, finding a foundation that is oil free, fragrance free, talc free, and clinically tested to not irritate skin can be daunting. Look no further than Cover Fx Natural Finish Foundation. It has a semi-matte finish and provides medium, buildable coverage. It has 40 shades and cost a reasonable $40.
Important tips to note:
- Avoid foundations with high amounts of sunscreen (SPF 20 or more) aka titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. That is the root cause of flash-back.
- SPF can also be found in primer, moisturizer, concealer, and finishing powder. Read ingredients carefully.
- If you’re buying online make sure the company has a great return policy. It’s very easy to accidentally buy the wrong shade online.
- A damp beauty blender will be your best friend when applying foundation to the face and neck.
