maybelline superstar matte ink composerI was so excited when I saw 10 brand new shades of the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks “City Edition” at my local Walmart. This range has been my go-to for a few years now. The formula is comfortable, non-drying, long-wearing, and – best of all – packed with a ton of pigment. One swipe is all you need.

I’ve completed several reviews of their liquid lipsticks, which I will link here, as well as made a video demonstrating the formula. I will link that here too, if you’re interested. Spoiler alert, I love them all.

The price range varies depending on where you buy, but I’ve found Walmart to be the cheapest, even compared to Amazon. I picked mine up for $7.94 each. Maybelline.com has them for sale for $7.99. Amazon has them for sale for a whopping $36!

City Edition! Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick

I picked up 4 lipsticks out of the available 10, mainly because either I have similar shades or I knew they would never get worn. The shades I picked up were; 112 Composer, 115 Founder, 117 Ground-breaker, and 130 Self-starter. All are shades that I really enjoy wearing and will get a lot of use from.

  • Composer is bold, eggplant shade with cool, berry undertones. It would be very flattering on all skin-tones. This shade is my favorite of the bunch and a color I will reach for often in the Fall and Winter months. This is the shade I’m wearing in the photo above mixed with Founder.
  • Founder is a deep, dusty pink with cool, berry undertones. This shade is probably more suited for neutral and cooler complexions. Medium and dark skin tones will get a lot of use from this shade as well. It is definitely bold, but also very wearable at the same time.
  • Ground-breaker is a muted, brick red with orange undertones. Like the Founder shade, this one is also bold, yet muted and very wearable. This shade would look amazing on red-heads! If you wear it, please tag me on social media.
  • Self-starter is the most “natural” shade of the bunch and also the most unique, in my opinion. It is a dusty pink with terra-cotta undertones. It appears more orange in the photo above though. Warm complexions will LOVE this shade, especially if they have olive undertones. It will really pop! I love it and think you will too.

The formula for this collection is exactly like the rest of the Superstay Matte Ink line, so if you like the way those wear, feel, smell, etc…you will also enjoy the City Edition shades.

Removal can be tricky if you don’t have a designated “waterproof makeup remover” product like Neutrogena makeup wipes or Lancome Bi Facil remover. It took me learning this the hard way, so have a product on-hand to remove these bad boys. Otherwise, it clings for days and days.
