I am a huge fan of the current “wet look” eyeshadow trend that is going on right now. So, when I found the Kevyn Aucoin Eye Gloss while browsing Amazon the other day, I jumped on it. It came with a hefty $38 price tag for 0.19 ounces, but since I have always really enjoyed products from this brand, it was worth the risk. Kevyn Aucoin Diamond Eye Gloss Review
In the pot, there is a medium amount of fine glitter particles ranging in colors from a beautiful, pale opal to shimmery white, all suspended in a creamy, clear base. When swatched, the glitter seems to disappear almost completely. I was kinda disappointed by that. Not because I enjoy my eyelids swimming in glitter, but because the particles in the pot look really special and you miss out on that touch of extra dimension. It almost reminded me of an super-expensive glitter polish that swipes out completely clear. I’m left asking myself “What happened and why is this so expensive?”
Things really fell apart when applied to the lids. I added a little foundation followed by Makeup Geek shadow on the lids and crease, then a touch of the eye gloss. For the first 5 minutes, the look was really beautiful. The gloss was comfortable to wear and not sticky on the lid at all. It also didn’t counteract my mascara, which was a good surprise and one of the issues I envisioned. My problem was that it completely broke down the foundation and eye shadow underneath. In other words, the only way to wear it is alone. On the box, it states that you can use this on cheekbones and on lips, but if you plan on wearing anything underneath, including foundation, it is a no-go.
Overall, I was highly disappointed in this product. For the price, it a huge waste. Not to mention there are a million other products you can use to achieve the glossy eye effect. This is one of those instances when you are strictly paying for the name brand alone. Thanks so much for reading my Kevyn Aucoin Diamond Eye Gloss Review.
