Yesterday, while in Walmart, I went a little nuts and bought a CRAP-TON of makeup to review. This includes nearly the entire line of Maybelline Superstar Matte Ink including the new Un-Nude collection. I bought every shade they had in stock. Since I’m trying out the whole “YouTube” thing, I’ll throw a video review into the mix too. It’s just another element to help you decide if you want to spend your hard earned money on this product. So without further ado, let’s get this Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Review plus Swatches party started.

The liquid lipsticks retail for $7.94 at Walmart and Amazon. That price is variable depending on where you buy. CVS, Walgreens, and Target are significantly more expensive – ranging upwards of $10 or more. Each tube contains 0.17 fl oz. or 5.0 ml. Compared to other drugstore liquid lipsticks, the price is about average.
The wand applicator is definitely unique. I’m no stranger to liquid lipsticks and I’ve never seen an applicator like this one, both high-end or drugstore. It has a divot in the center that holds a generous amount of product, so one “dip” covers the entire real estate of your lip. The tip is also unique because it allows you to get right to the edge of your lips with pencil precision. No lip liner needed.
The formula and feel varies greatly from shade to shade. Some feel tacky for several minutes, while others are velvety smooth right from the tube. I’ve noticed the newer shades (nudes) have a distinguished texture, which I’ll touch on momentarily.
They don’t call it Superstay for nothing! Wear-time is astronomical. You could rock this lip for DAYS if you wanted. You might look a little crusty, but this product binds itself and doesn’t let go. Reapplying onto the inner rim of the lips is sometimes necessary after eating. For the remaining lip area, Lancome Bi-Facil is recommended for quick and comfortable removal.

From their first launch I have:
- Dreamer (10) Light bubblegum pink with a touch of mauve
- Lover (15) Mid-toned mauve/pink
- Pioneer (20) Candy apple red (favorite)
- Heroine (25) Neon tangerine (favorite)
From their new Un-Nude Collection I have:
- Driver (55) Light warm brown nude
- Seductress (65) Mid-toned warm/neutral mauve (must-have)
- Amazonian (70) Warm brown terra-cotta
- Ruler (80) Muted neutral red
- Huntress (90) Mid-toned grey
- Visionary (95) mid-toned grey/violet
Pigmentation is perfection. I haven’t experienced any streaking whatsoever. There are some application discrepancies between the older shades and the newer ones. The first collection stays very tacky for 2 or even up to 4 minutes before completely drying down. This makes it quite difficult for beauty on-the-go. It’s uncomfortable and transfers onto the teeth easily during drying time. Once set, you’re good to go.
The new collection has none of the negatives. It’s smooth and comfortable directly from the applicator until dry-down. You still get transfer onto your teeth, but NOTHING like the original. The formulas are like night and day.
Overall, I really enjoy this entire line of liquid lipsticks. They are virtually fuss-free, while offering a shade for every skin tone, style, and age under the sun. Besides the dry time, they are practically perfect, especially for drugstore. I would put the Maybelline Superstay Matte Inks up against most, if not all high-end lippies. Highly recommended. 👍🏼
