For the whole 2014 year I am dedicated to putting out a monthly favorites post. January was a busy month and I discovered plenty of products that are easily on their way to HG (Holy Grail) material. Let’s get started with the HITS.

Beginning with moisturizer, I have been loving the Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer. This stuff has made my skin feel baby soft every day. I even use it as a base under my foundations to make my skin look flawless. It glides on smoothly, doesn’t break me out or cause irritation, PLUS it’s made with certified organic ingredients. Gotta love that!

Next, I watched one of my favorite YouTube beauty guru’s (It’s Judy Time) and she recommended the Physician’s Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Foundation. It has broad spectrum SPF 15 and comes in a new “dropper” formula. I would compare it to a serum. This foundation photographs beautifully and is very camera friendly. It’s a light – light medium coverage but is easily build able. I purchased mine at CVS for $14.99 and I love it!

The Covergirl TRU Magic Bronzer is my next favorite. While I don’t care for the poreless primer or the illuminizer, Covergirl did a great job creating this creamy, matte bronzer that goes on as a cream but sets as a super soft powder. The color is The Sunkisser and I predict this to be very popular in the coming Spring. As you can see from the photo, it’s been used and loved.

I don’t know what I would do without my Ben Nye Luxury Powder in Cameo. It is the perfect powder that sets your foundation to a flawless, matte finish that last all day. It’s very inexpensive ($8 or so online) and a little goes a long way. LOVE!

OPI is currently repromoting an old favorite nail polish of mine, On Collin’s Ave. It’s a bright coral pinky orange and dries into a beautiful opaque gel. Well, why pay $12 dollars when you can buy the exact same color for $1.50? Wet N’ Wild Heatwave is an exact dupe of On Collin’s Ave. and a must-have for Spring!

The last few items is a new brand that I found while shopping at a local Fred’s Dollar Store. It’s called Ioni Cosmetics. I really didn’t expect much from this brand considering they were so cheap. $2.50 for a blush and $1.00 for the lipgloss. When I got home and tried them out. WOW! The pigmentation and color of these are amazing. Plus, they are made in the U.S.A. They had more colors available but I didn’t want to pick up too many without trying them out. I’m definitely going back for more soon! From left to right the colors are:

  • Goddess – a warm shimmery mauve with a touch of berry.
  • Orgasmic – this could be a dupe for NARS Orgasm, hence the name
  • Miss Bliss – a matte natural flushed color

The Ioni Cosmetics lipglosses are $1 each and these colors are amazingly pigmented. I’m not crazy about lipglosses in general, but these are the exception. Buy directly from their website here. The colors from left to right are:

  • Cinema – a true glossy red with no glitter. Very pigmented and leaves a stain on the lips.
  • Fanciful – a semi sheer berry pink – no glitter
  • Razzle – a sheer nude pink – no glitter
  • Sassy – a bright hot pink. Very pigmented and leaves a lip stain.

Now for the January MISSES!

My first monthly “miss” is from NYX. It’s the NYX Eyeshadow Base with Pearl # ESB02. This stuff is just a mess to work with. It causes the eyeshadow to crease on top and the shimmer underneath makes every shadow that goes over it look weird.

NYX Eyeshadow BaseThe Maybelline Mastershape by Eyestudio was a TOTAL miss for me. I find the formula way to soft to use on the brows and makes them look too harsh and dark.

Lastly, while I loved several of the Ioni Cosmetics, there was one of their products that made the list. This is the Ioni Liquid liner in Urban. The liner tip is a small, thin brush that is well made instead of a felt tip. The packaging is very nice and comparable to higher end products, but the consistency is a mess, streaky, and patchy.
